Understanding how Pet insurance works
Most companies reimburse expenses, and do not pay up front. Currently there are a few companies that will authorize payments and pay the hospital directly.
A yearly deductible does often exist similar to human health insurance.
Preexisting conditions are also a factor and every company has different policies on these. It is recommended to speak directly to the company about exactly what is considered preexisting and what is covered.
What not to do:
- Ask your Veterinarian to omit or change medical records for the purpose of getting coverage
- Try to apply for insurance in the face of an emergency (Coverage is not activated immediately)
